"I Love Making People Happy With Coffee"
It was late evening in Minas Gerais.
A farmhouse table. Wood-burning stove. Crickets outside. Tais, the farmer whose family had grown coffee for three generations, handed me a cup made from beans harvested fifty meters from where we were sitting.
She didn't speak English. I don't speak much Portuguese. But the question I was carrying that night needed no translation: who actually wins in this industry?
I'd been in coffee for almost twenty years at that point. I'd roasted it, sourced it across continents, sold it in 26 countries, built a specialty bar from scratch, repositioned a family roastery that had been running since 1936. I'd sat on every side of every table. And I still couldn't answer that question honestly.
That trip to Brazil changed the way I work.
Not because I found the answer. Because I stopped pretending the question wasn't there.
My name is Matteo Borea.
I'm an Italian entrepreneur, third-generation coffee professional, and the person coffee business owners come to when they're tired of advice that sounds right in a conference room and falls apart in real life
I don't teach from a textbook. I share from a journey that's still happening — the strategies I'm testing, the frameworks I've built, the mistakes I've made publicly and learned from slowly. Marketing, AI, positioning, pricing, communication. The tools change. The underlying question stays the same: how do you build a business that actually looks like you?
I write a weekly newsletter. I've published 100+ articles. I've trained baristas in Fiji, spoken at international conferences, and once had a paragraph removed from a major industry publication after a multinational's manager called the editor to threaten legal action. I kept the paragraph on my own blog. It became the most-read piece I published that week.
I'm not the guru at the top of the mountain. I'm further along the path in some areas, still figuring it out in others — and genuinely excited to share what I see.
If you're an independent coffee entrepreneur trying to raise prices without losing clients, compete without the budget of a multinational, or just build a clearer strategy for what comes next — you're in the right place.
Start with the newsletter. It's free, it's weekly, and it won't waste your Monday morning.
